Hi, I'm Arkhan! 👋

This is a project I've wanted to start since the coronavirus pandemic began. I've put a lot of time into it, and I've finally been able to take the first step. I have big ambitions for it, really big (sometimes they keep me awake at night!), but I want to slowly, step by step. I hope to grow alongside it and I'll try to be consistent and update it as regularly as possible.

Without further ado, here it is...

Neighborly

Neighborly is a community life-simulation experiment focused on the balance between autonomous AI and architectural design.

I'm going to be launching this project in a "Retrospective Series"—uploading the development builds in sequence so you can watch the simulation grow from a simple survival loop into a complex neighborhood.

Neighborly is a solo-dev passion project updated one build at a time. Follow the devlog for frequent patches, bug fixes, and deep-dives into the AI logic.

Neighborly's Vision

Phase 4: The Variety Series (Current Phase)

We have finished the bones. With the completion of Phase 3, the neighborhood now supports structural boundaries, intelligent navigation, and environment awareness. Phase 4 is about Life and Variety. We are now expanding the "Grains of Interaction"—adding depth to how needs are met, introducing new objects, and giving every resident a unique rhythm.

Controls

  • WASD / Arrow Keys: Pan the camera around the neighborhood.
  • Middle Mouse (Scroll Wheel) Click & Drag: Freely pan the camera.
  • Mouse Wheel: Zoom in to see the details or out to view the whole plot.
  • 1: Normal Speed (1x).
  • 2: Fast (3x)
  • 3: Super Fast Forward (5x).
  • Space Bar: Pause the simulation.
  • Left Click (on Resident): Select to view needs and status.
  • Left Click (on Object): Direct the selected resident to interact with a specific object (Fridge, Bed, etc.).
  • Left Click (on Grass): Command the selected resident to walk to a specific location.
  • Left Click (Buy/Build Mode): Place furniture, paint floors, or drag continuous walls.
